BC Biz Radar is a British Columbia data service that tracks every new business appearing in the province each week: named incorporations from the BC Corporate Registry, out-of-province companies entering BC, and new City of Vancouver business licences.
Each week’s records are classified into 11 verticals, verified against OrgBook BC (active status plus business number), and enriched with publicly published contact details, with a source URL on every field. Subscribers receive a Monday CSV and PDF issue covering their slice of the market.
The launch vertical for the insurance audience is Trades and Construction: roughly 78 construction and trades companies incorporate in or enter BC every week, and every one of them needs CGL insurance and bonding in its first 30 days of operation.
What makes us an InsurTech:
Commercial brokers win new-business accounts by being first in the door. BC Biz Radar gives a brokerage that timing edge as a subscription data feed: every new BC contractor and trades company, captured the week it incorporates or takes out a licence, verified against official registry sources, and tagged with underwriting-relevant signals such as UPGRADE (a sole proprietor that just incorporated, so its existing policy may no longer match the insured entity) and EXPANSION (an out-of-town firm entering a new city).
Feeds are sold as verified names plus registry identity; contact details are included only where they are conspicuously published, each with a source URL, so a brokerage’s prospecting stays CASL-compliant. CASL outreach-basis notes ship inside every issue. One-off custom list builds (a specific vertical, region and time window) deliver within 48 hours.
Major features & technology used:
The pipeline is AI-operated end to end: automated weekly extraction from official open-data sources (BC Corporate Registry notices and municipal business-licence datasets), entity resolution and verification against the OrgBook BC API, NLP classification of raw business names into verticals, and AI-assisted contact enrichment that attaches a published source URL to every field it ships; anything unverifiable is excluded rather than guessed. Renewal deduplication and shell-company filtering keep the feed limited to genuinely new businesses.
