Volvo Cars and Cambridge Mobile Telematics introduce Safety Coach to deliver in-vehicle driving coaching in real time, giving Volvo drivers road safety insights and access to personalized programs that reward safer driving
Cambridge, MA (Aug. 13, 2026) – Volvo Cars and Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT), the world’s largest telematics and AI company for safer mobility, are pleased to announce Safety Coach, an in-car and mobile app that delivers real-time driving insights directly in Volvo cars. Safety Coach helps Volvo drivers improve safety and, over time, access personalized insurance savings without additional hardware.
“Safety Coach is an important step in how we support our customers with safer, more personalized experiences,” said Alexander Franke, Global Head of Insurance at Volvo Cars. “By giving drivers clear insights, we can help them drive more safely while also enabling more tailored insurance offerings.”
Safety Coach runs in most Volvo cars using Android Automotive OS from model year 2020, delivering real-time driving insights directly through the infotainment system and the Volvo Cars app. The new, opt-in functionality will allow drivers to see their driving score and understand how behaviors like braking, acceleration, and speed impact safety.
Safety Coach is built around driver choice and transparency. Drivers can first opt in to use Safety Coach in their vehicle. Over time, users will also be able to opt in a second time to share their driving data with affiliated insurance companies for the opportunity to save on insurance. Drivers can opt out at any time, and have clear visibility into how their safety score is calculated.
By making driving insights simple and easy to understand, Safety Coach helps drivers build safer habits over time. CMT’s research shows that drivers who are aware of their behaviors behind the wheel can improve their safety, with the riskiest drivers reducing their chances of being in an injury-related crash by 5.5%.
Safety Coach will first launch in Sweden and Norway. The rollout will then extend to the United States, followed by a staggered introduction across additional European markets, with insurance-related offers planned at each stage.
“Safety Coach reflects our mission to make the world’s roads and drivers safer,” said William V. Powers, Co-Founder and CEO of CMT. “By bringing driving insights directly into the vehicle, we’re making it simple for drivers to understand their behavior and benefit from safer driving. For more than a decade, we’ve partnered with insurers around the world to reduce risk, prevent crashes, and save lives. With Safety Coach, we’re extending that proven approach to the connected car, helping drivers build safer habits while enabling insurers to deliver more accurate, behavior-based programs worldwide.”
