Sustainable Competitive Advantage from Agentic Systems

As previously discussed, there are three areas of benefit from an agentic system. Two tend to be measurable (Doing work more cheaply and Doing more work with the same employees), especially the first. It is usually the basis for a business case to invest in this development.

But as your competitors implement the same tools, any competitive advantage withers.

The third benefit area, Making better decisions – which spans underwriting, claims, marketing and sales, etc. – can be unique to you, and can increase over time; it is a competitive advantage which grows.

But how do you measure the quality of your reasoning and decision-making today and tomorrow?

Take two of your experts in one of those areas and ask them for a decision in the same case with some complexity. Do they conclude with different results? Each expert brought different experiences and individual reasoning to the task. How far apart are their decisions?

Furthermore, when would you really know which result was better? Could it take years?

The conundrum: different people, different results.

With an agentic system building on the cumulative reasoning and results of the past and ingesting new learnings continually, decision-making can become more consistent and better. This is what compounds the potential advantage over time.
