Autonomous Trucking In The U.S. (Cont'd)

Autonomous trucking companies are transitioning from closed-course pilots to active commercial freight operations, hauling goods for retail and logistics giants. Examples:

Aurora Innovation: Operates revenue-generating, fully driverless freight services with about 5 active driverless trucks completing trips on two bidirectional routes in Texas.

Kodiak Robotics: Has logged over 3 million autonomous miles and thousands of hours of paid driverless service using 20 driverless trucks in Texas providing commercial deliveries for IKEA and Tyson Foods.

Gatik: Middle-mile autonomous logistics for retailers including Walmart and PepsiCo, operating 10 fully driverless trucks (with observers) across Texas and Arkansas.

Waymo Via: Deploys dozens of autonomous heavy-duty trucks for middle-mile and long-haul freight operations in Texas and New Mexico for partners like Uber Freight.

Torc Robotics (Daimler Truck): Public highway testing with dozens of driver-supervised vehicles in Virginia, New Mexico, Texas, and Michigan, planning fully autonomous commercial fleet rollout by 2027.

Meanwhile, Congress is advancing the BUILD America 250 Act and the America Drives Act – bipartisan bills establishing the first federal framework for autonomous commercial motor vehicles in interstate commerce. The legislation aims to unify existing state-by-state regulations under a single national standard.
