Why Trust in Tech is Higher than Trust in Vendor
By Steve Pieroway, Benevolent Marketing
According to the inaugural 2026 Benevolent Trust Index report, two-thirds of broker respondents believe the promises of InsurTech (time savings, efficiency and ROI) are overstated, while less than one-quarter feel vendors are honest and reliably do the right thing. These statistics should give us pause to think about the relationship we have with InsurTech. And the findings support one result that quietly stands out: trust in tech is higher than trust in vendor. Read more.

Auto Safety & V2I Communications

Both the data and the communications link to our gps mapping apps have more potential.

Paul Carroll notes in “A New Approach to Auto Safety” that data indicating consistent hard-braking at a location may indicate a road design issue, which could be rectified.

Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communications is being deployed in Canada to enhance road safety, reduce traffic injuries, and improve traffic flow. Vehicles “talk” to traffic signals, road sensors, and other infrastructure for instant information.

Calgary has installed V2I technology at 11 intersections; it provides real-time, location-specific warnings, such as alerting drivers if another vehicle is approaching an intersection at a high speed; and traffic signals send countdowns to green lights or imminent red lights to reduce abrupt braking.

Montreal is upgrading its traffic signal network so that emergency vehicles can trigger green lights to speed up their response time and reduce accidents; likewise, public transit vehicles can communicate with traffic signals to gain priority.

Ontario's Commercial Vehicle Pilot includes testing V2I capabilities to improve safety by providing driver alerts about hazards ahead. Drivewyze Canada's in-cab alerts do just that.

Safer roads are better roads. For auto insurers, V2I is just one of many factors which will have an impact.
