From Doug

Insuring Commercial Property

Throughout my decades-long career, insurance businesses have been deploying technology to improve some portion of the insurance process for commercial property insurance.

From the paper-based iterations between broker and customer and between broker and markets and back to customer, steps have been digitized, transformed, and automated.

Noting just a few examples:

• From paper by mail moved to images and data by digital connection;
• From ad hoc forms to smart forms to collect all (and only) the right data;
• Tools to prepare submissions, manage them and analyze quotations;
• Tools to analyze and screen submissions;
• Automated underwriting tools to immediately return a quotation;
• Standards to improve the quality and consistency of data exchanged;
• Integration with Broker Management and Underwriting systems.

Each of these individually, or more-so when combined, has improved the process.

The benefits are found throughout the chain, from greater customer satisfaction to improved productivity and quality for the broker to reduced workload and improved quality of underwriting for the MGA or insurer.

As the next generation of tools using AI, AI agents and Agentic Systems emerge, many of the functions noted will improve and the benefits increase, again. The journey continues.
