From Doug

Autonomous vehicles fascinate me.

From McKinsey comes a perspective on personal transportation AVs over the next 15+ years (including five video “previews”).

The rise of self-driving cars is about reshaping trust, infrastructure, and everyday life. This shift could transform our commutes—and our cities.

A day in the life: AVs are operating within our urban cities already. You can see how efficiently they communicate with each other and the way they follow the rules of the road. AV technology will be a commodity. Will teens even learn to drive?

AI revolution: AI instead of rules-based systems will help to bring these systems on the road with high quality, high performance, and ultimately high safety levels more quickly.

Cities: Each city will tackle the transformation in depots, charging, maintenance, infrastructure to enable this evolution of city-travel.

Consumer trust: Those who try an AV typically transition from "I don't trust the technology" after about 30 seconds to "Oh, this is perfectly safe".

Talent: More will be needed.

Societal impact: Ultimately, the story of AVs will be less about the cars and more about the new patterns of life and work that they enable.

Auto insurance too will evolve, as the journey progresses.
