Learning agents in Insurance in Canada

As use cases are implemented, the people deploying them learn much more about how AI learning agents work and what enables them to work well, leading to more uses. Some examples:

Aviva Canada's Risk Management Solutions (ARMS) is using AI to prioritize which customer accounts need proactive risk management advice based on historical claims data.

Mitch Insurance is deploying an NLP-based chatbot to handle tasks like quoting, claim submissions, change requests, and calls. This system progressively improves by observing human responses and adjusting its own behavior—essentially "learning from human patterns" to enhance future performance.

Telematics and Usage-Based Insurance: Many Canadian auto insurers use AI to analyze telematics data. The AI assesses driving behavior to create a dynamic risk profile for each driver. This allows for hyper-personalized premium pricing. It is a classic example of a learning agent that continuously updates its understanding of a policyholder's risk.

These and many others in areas such as claims and fraud provide benefit.

From an operational perspective, there is labour savings.

Strategically, though, the big benefit is in improved quality and scope in areas such as loss prevention, CX, personalized service and pricing.
