Gartner Says Use of Open Source Will Be Key Enabler for SaaS Development Platform Adoption.
STAMFORD, Conn., April 14, 2008 - By 2010, 90 percent of software as a service (SaaS) providers will have some open-source component in their technology infrastructure stacks (that is, operating system, application server and database) to reduce software acquisition expenses, according to Gartner, Inc. The Council's Survey Shows USA Soft Market Even Softer in First Quarter 2008.
WASHINGTON - The soft cycle for commercial property/casualty insurance got even softer in the first quarter of 2008, according to the latest Commercial Market Index Survey by The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers, with three-fourths of the agents and brokers reporting that renewal premiums for their small and medium accounts were down 1-20 percent compared with fourth quarter 2007.

Children make more than one million visits a year to Ontario emergency departments: CIHI.
April 24, 2008 - In 2005-2006, 1 in 4 emergency department visits in Ontario were made by children (newborn to 17 years). This represents more than one million visits made by about 685,000 children, according to a new analysis by the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI).

This is driving week, in spite of the high price of gasoline. Our Ottawa student son has only two months left on his G2 driver's licence, and summer classes begin next week. Having not driven for a year or more, we are searching out reasons to go to particular places, and hopefully regain the level of driving comfort attained at driving school two years ago. I hope it works; on Friday we will know.
