Personal Lines Underwriting is Entering a New Age of Data
By Deb Smallwood, Strategy Meets Action
It would not be an understatement to say that the insurance industry is built on data. For decades, insurers have harnessed data and analytics to drive risk analysis decisions, and perhaps no other segment has done that better than personal lines. From Doug

First and foremost, government is “for the people.” By that logic, life should be better for people in a collective sense at the end of a term than at the beginning. Assessing the state is of course fraught with pitfalls, but our world of data should help.

Lately, the political scene has been moving further away from its fundamental principle toward winning and party politics. Leadership in some provinces, for example, has undertaken actions which seem to fly in the face of solving some of our major societal problems.

I would be more inclined to buy in if these announcements communicated how the results will impact major issues such as healthcare, the cost of living, climate change, etc., and could make a better case (based in science and empirical data) for their benefits.

I was delighted to see the announcement of Canada's National Adaptation Strategy on Climate. I hope there is action, and that it will grow.

With so much invested by the insurance industry over many years, one can hear the cries of dismay, should a new political leader revoke the strategy down the road.

We all need to contribute; what have you invested?
