When I told him insurance and technology, his eyes widened and he asked an unexpected question: “What do you know about peer-to-peer insurance?” I told him it was becoming a hot topic in my world, and he surprised me again, saying, “In mine, too.” There are lessons here.

360° Customer View: You Can Look, but Can You Touch?
Like the lives of so many celebrities and reality-show families whose relationships and daily interactions are splashed across our screens, insurers' views of their customers present the same frustrating dilemma: sometimes they want to try to reach into the customers' world to help influence decisions. But, just like on TV, it seems today's insurers can see but not actually touch their customers. True customer engagement continues to evade even the savviest of carriers.

Benchmark IME: Energy drinks, car accidents, and increased potential for injury?
The National Safety Commission has issued a report on the dangers of the use of energy drinks and driving a car. Various energy drink brands have become very popular over the last number of years, particularly with those under the age of 30, and are commonly used to assist with increased energy, athletic performance, and even just to stay awake. Due to the highly powerful combination of stimulants contained in these beverages, different jurisdictions have reacted with restrictions on the total amount of stimulants, such as caffeine, that can be contained in an individual serving. But this limitation doesn't preclude individuals from having multiple servings. This is where problems arise – the stimulants are so powerful that very few servings are required to dramatically impact an average individual.
