Suneel Upadhye, BS, MD, FRCPC
“Marijuana for Medical Purposes: What We Know and Don't Know”
Dr. Suneel Upadhye completed his MD training in 1996 and the Royal College Emergency Medicine Program in 2001. He has an MSc in Clinical Epidemiology/Biostatistics. He was the former Undergraduate Education Coordinator in the academic Division of Emergency Medicine at McMaster, responsible for creating the highly regarded Emergency Medicine clerkship rotation. He has recently been appointed as the Chair of the Standards Committee for the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians. He has an active research interest in Knowledge Translation in Emergency Medicine, as well as health care policy. He is an active member of the Evidence-Based Medicine Interest Groups of the Canadian Association of Emergency Medicine and the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine. He has lectured at many national and international conferences, and is the Co-Chair of the Best Evidence in Emergency Medicine at McMaster.

Mark Dowhaniuk, PhD, CPsych
“‘Double Counting’ and the Allen and Security National Appeal: A Clinical Neuropsychological Perspective”
Dr. Mark Dowhaniuk is a Registered Psychologist and his practice is specific to the area of Clinical Neuropsychology working with adult and senior patient populations. He began independent practice in 2004 and was on staff with the traumatic brain injury specialty clinic for the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. He has practiced in the area of inpatient neuro-rehabilitation working with acquired brain injury and neurological patient populations. His services include the provision of neuropsychological assessments with a focus on cognitive rehabilitation, treatment planning, and patient and family education. He is certified in the use of the American Medical Association Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment 4th Edition and conducts neuropsychological assessments for the purpose of catastrophic impairment determination.
William H. Gnam, MD, PhD, FRCPC
“‘Material Contribution’ vs. ‘But For’ Causation: Not So Straight Forward from a Mental and Behavioural Perspective”
Dr. William H. Gnam is a Psychiatrist and has lectured frequently to clinicians, lawyers and insurers on topics related to mental and behavioural impairment. Dr. Gnam in 2010 served as Scientific and Clinical consultant to the FSCO Expert Panel on Catastrophic Impairment. In addition to extensive clinical experience as Staff Psychiatrist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto, Dr. Gnam is also a Scientist and expert in the scientific foundations of clinical decision making. He has testified in this capacity as a Scientist before the Workers Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, and the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia. His dual qualifications as clinician and scientist enable him to offer unique insights into mental and behavioural impairment.
